Biosphere 2, North of Tucson, AZ Housing for scientists. Tropical environment. The “ocean”. Desert zone. One of two “lungs”. 150′ across with a multi-ton ceiling that would rise and fall as air expanded in the biosphere. This prevented the sealed glass panes from exploding due to pressure. The cistern of water is required by fire code in order to supply water for putting out a fire. The “lung” was just a convenient place to house it. The outer wall of the “lung” is on the right. The inner surface of a protective geodesic dome is on the left. The huge dome can be seen from the outside in the next photo. Dome protecting one of the “lungs”. I never found out what these buildings were for but I thought they looked cool. Share this:ShareFacebookTwitter
